A downloadable game for Windows

Hello, I am Max, and this is a project I completed for my Uni specialism. Level design.

I have a particular interest in designing levels as they are what sets the pace for a game - and I especially love games with a player lead pace. In this game it is meant to be chilled out and at the players own pace, and so an interior level fit this. I developed a game centred around moving in to a new place, giving the player control of the pace. They can either take it slow and chill out with the music or rush through it all. I chose to do this as I wanted to work on something within VR due to my current obsession with VR. And since I have never developed something in VR before I wanted to make sure that I wouldn't overwhelm myself with functionality.

My plan for this project was to create an appartment unit that had all the big furniture already in place, but the smaller objects were still packed away. The way this was implemented was by making each object obscured to the player until they picked it up, being able to figure out where they wanted to place it afterwards.

Things didn't go exactly as planned, rarely do they ever with my projects honestly, with some aspects needing more refining or a different system entirely to work smoothly. Though I was making this with the idea of it simply being a prototype so some minor bugs were not a huge issue to me. Some of these issues were doors sometimes becoming a struggle to close and the boxes disappearing pre-emptively. Though the issue with the boxes only appears in the packaged file.

If I had more time for, or went back to, this project I would improve those systems. As well as adding in more items for the player to decorate the space with. Maybe even a menu with more houses for the player to decorate. Though feel what I managed to get done works well enough to get the point of the game across.

I don't necessarily feel more confident in the specialism I have chosen, but over time as I complete more projects - both personal and for university - I feel that my confidence will eventually grow. The lack of it stemming from my preference for doing concepts instead of developing working builds.

Next I will continue work on a personal project in the background of my next Uni project - which I feel as though this project has set me up well for due to the next project having to be made in VR.
